Tteok is a traditional soup dish eaten during the Korean New Year. It is thinly sliced into an oval, coin-like shape, symbolizing money and good fortune. It has a chewy texture and maintains its shape well in soup. Although the rice cakes themselves don't have much flavor, they absorb the soup's flavor well. They are simmered in the soup, which softens them and allows them to soak up the broth's taste.

Tteok
-
Tteokguk is a traditional soup dish eaten on the Korean New Year.
-
In Japan, it is said that eating mochi, a dish enjoyed to celebrate the New Year, adds one year to your life.
-
It's chewy and retains its shape well in soup.
-
Mochi itself doesn't have much flavor, but it absorbs the flavor of the soup very well.
-
Put it in the soup and simmer. Simmering will soften the mochi and allow it to absorb the soup's flavor.
-
Toppings such as egg, beef, green onions, and nori seaweed also make it visually appealing.
