This is a special rice cake made from 100% rice, used in Korea's New Year's dish, Tteokguk. Because it uses fresh rice, it is called "Haetmat" (fresh taste). It is cut into a traditional oval shape, resembling a coin. It has a chewy and soft texture and blends well with soup. When added to hot soup, the rice cake softens and absorbs the flavor of the soup.
